Empire State Buildingis a 102-story skyscraper located in MidtownManhattan, New York City, at the intersection ofFifth Avenue and West 34th Street. It has a roofheight of 1,250 feet (381 meters), and with itsantenna spire included, it stands a total of 1,454 ft(443.2 m) high. Its name is derived from thenickname for New York, the Empire State. It stoodas the world’s tallest building for nearly 40 years,from its completion in early 1931 until the toppingout of the World Trade Center’s North Tower inlate 1970.
